It had Sean Penn's less popular and just as comedic brother in it, Eric Stoltz as his strait-laced and more responsible friend, Lea Thompson, and the never-quite-were's Ilan Mitchell-Smith and Jenny Wright. Yes, it should have been a bigger hit.
Everything looked so grungy in this movie, or maybe it was just an 80's thing.
Totally agree. I remember back in the late 80's when cable used to rerun it all the time. I don't think I've seen it since, never gets rerun anymore like the other movies of the time do, like Pretty in Pink, St Elmos Fire, Fast Times, etc, etc. Too bad, I'd get a kick out of seeing it again. It's not even on my ppv, which has every other ridiculous movie ever made. Ah well.
shareI agree 100%. It ranks right up there with Fast times at Ridgemont high.. maybe #2.. your right I would watch it 3 times a month and then"poof" it's gone. I haven't seen it since 86-87.. I'd love to see it again.
shareI remember the hype about this in the 80s, it was meant specifically as a sequel of sorts to FTARH, even written by Cameron Crowe.
When it came out it was a huge disappointment, critically and commercially. It failed pretty much in every way Fast Times had succeeded.
Chris Penn is a lesser version of Sean Penn, Lea Thompson a lesser Phoebe Cates, etc.
It wasn't a terrible teen comedy, it just looked bad because it was such a let time from Fast Times. I'd actually like to see it again, but they never seem to show it.
