Ok sa Artrax drown because he felt sedness in swamp. Doesn't it means that Atrey sould also drown because he felt sadness for the Artrax the horse!

Atreyu had the motivation to resist the urge to just give up. He also had the will to overcome his fear at the Southern Oracle, and just focus on moving forward.

That was his special strength, and, I think, why he was chosen for the quest.

Capitao_Nascimento, so did you miss the bit where Atreyu starts to drown then? He's only rescued at the last minute by Falcor.

And like others have said, it's not just about "feeling sad." It's about completely losing hope.

It also explains why Gmork can run swiftly through the swamp without ever getting stuck or sinking. He is excited and hopeful because he can smell Atreu and knows that he is getting closer and closer to achieving his mission of killing him.
