Remember that US and European versions are usually different by a few minutes because one runs faster than the other. I forget which. I don't see any markings on your BR that makes it European though, just saying.

Makes me wonder if the people who released it in the US required the film to be close to 90 mins, so scenes were cut. It's a kid's movie and the shorter a movie is, the more times it may be able to play in the theater each day aka hoping for more money.
I imagine a longer version of the film would have
somewhat ameliorated its status in the minds of fans who are unhappy with the adaptation not covering the entirety of the novel it was based on.
