Its a Sci-Fi version of Halloween
James Cameron has stated that John Carpenter was an inspiration for The Terminator and that he admired him for being able to make Halloween with a shoestring budget. John Carpenter's influence really shows in this movie i think. The killer is seemingly unstoppable and indestructible, granted one is a human being and the other is a cyborg but Carpenter wanted Michael Myers to be a force of nature. Both wear masks. Arnold's face is like a mask in a way, hiding the endoskeleton underneath plus it shows no emotion like Michael Myers himself and his mask. Both killers seem to have one specific target in mind, although they will kill anyone that happens to get in the way of their ultimate goal. Sarah Connor is the final girl that is in trouble but doesnt know it right away much like Laurie Strode in Halloween. Both women have a protector, Laurie has Loomis at the end. Sarah has Kyle til the end. They also both know what the killers are capable of and try to warn the police. Both films involve a couple having sex, only to get killed soon thereafter. Im sure there are other similarities but these are the main ones that come to mind at the moment. The Terminator is a sci-fi action horror that plays out much like a slasher movie. Take out the sci-fi and brief romance parts and you pretty much have a very good slasher/Halloween clone. All that being said The Terminator is IMO the best in the entire Terminator series and one of my personal favorite all time movies. Does anybody share the same thoughts?
