While this movie attempts to blend the late-1950s with the early-1980s (just like the contemporaneous rockabilly revival), it remains very much a product of its time. It was far more influenced by MTV than by any firmly-entrenched rock'n'roll archetypes.
Still, for those of us who were there when it was released, it managed to perfectly capture a moment in time that can still elicit a smile today. It was the right movie at the right time in the right place.
