Is the DVD censored?
OK, so I am older now then when I first saw Streets of Fire. In fact, I was 13 when it came to the theaters in 1984. I loved it! Of course, now, my opinion has changed...slightly... but it is still a nostalgic thrill. It had been at least 10 years since I've seen it last when I put it on my Nexflix queue. It arrived a few days ago and I watched it last night.
Here's the thing. SoF has always held a place in my heart as being part of the Holy Trilogy: movies rated PG that showed breasts. Is that immature and puerile? Yes. Did I mention that I was 13 when I saw it?
Anyway, SoF rounded out the list that included Sixteen Candles and The Beastmaster (ah, Tanya Roberts...) for showing me boobs in a movie I didn't have to sneak into. That is not the reason I still remember this movie fondly, or at least not the only one.
So I was watching it last night and it got to the One Bad Stud song, sung by the Blasters with the lovely Marine Jahan dancing on the bar. She flashes the crowd once or twice, and there is a moment she reaches up under her shirt and you see a flash of nipple...
...but I could have sworn that there was a full on reveal before the song was over of her pulling her shirt completely off.
Am I remembering this incorrectly? Did this only happen in my adolescent dreams? Or did whoever released this movie on DVD get all antsy-in-the-pantsy over flashing some tit in a PG movie (something that you will surely never see again)? Am I going to have to go to Amazon and buy a 3 cent copy on VHS just to walk down memory lane?
This is not exactly on par with tampering with the Zapruder Film, but it would be depressing to know that some uptight twerp made them edit out a boob shot for the sake of... Hell, I don't know what purpose it'd serve, except to annoy people like me.
Did anyone else notice this, or am I remembering incorrectly?
1. Being moody.
2. Being bad at maths.
3. Being sad.
