Blu Ray

I have been a fan of this film ever since it was released in 1984. I own the 1984 VHS tape and the DVD. Is it because of the music and copyright laws that are preventing this from entering the Blu-Ray market? I remember right before this film came out, there was a documentary on the making of this film that incorporated a lot of behind the scenes material and interviews with the cast, circa 1984. I am sure there are a lot of fans (who probably don't want to admit it) who are fans of this film that would like to see a Blu-Ray release of this film. It would be nice if Universal could include the 1984 making of documentary and maybe track down a couple of the cast members for a retrospective look at the film and what they think about it now, and lastly maybe a short interview with director Walter Hill. If not, since that film was chock full of music from 1984, how about a couple of music videos. I know I would spend a couple of extra bucks to own this on Blu-Ray. Heck, if the can release low budget movies such as The Evil Dead movies on Blu-Ray format, why can't Universal add this film to the market. It was also be nice if Warner brothers could add 1983's The Right Stuff on Blu-Ray.I am a serious movie buff for decades. I own 5,000 films (no joke). VHS-1718 DVD-2996 and Blu-Ray-286. I have been a fan of movies ever since I could talk. Just my opinion, what do all think of a Blu-Ray release?

I would LOVE a blu ray release of this. I remember after the movie came out, I used to have a VHS that was an assortment of music videos from the film...I wore it out pretty quick. But this movie had one of the best soundtracks EVER (I still have the vinyl!). I never understood why the movie didn't do better...most people that I talk to have never heard of it.

I would definitely grab a blu ray of it!

I don't think it has anything to do with the music rights. The film was available in the now-dead HD-DVD format. I usually send an E-mail to universal every six months to see if there is any chance of it being released but they usually respond with the standard 'no plans at this time'. I would love to see this one get a proper release that's loaded with extras but at this point I would just be happy for a HD transfer and great sound.

I would love a Blu-Ray release as well, especially since the DVD was not enhanced for widescreen TVs.

You can now get an HD-DVD player dirt cheap from eBay. Bought one at a thrift store for less than $20. The HD-DVD movie was dirt cheap as well. The movie is great on HD-DVD. For the Blu-ray I would like to see a DTS-HD Master audio 5.1 rather than Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 on HD-DVD and bonus features not on the HD-DVD.

I still have the HD-DVD from years ago with the original cover art. Luckily I kept my player. It looks and sounds great in high def. http://www.amazon.com/Streets-Fire-DVD-Diane-Lane/dp/B000QEIOU8

I'm on the bandwagon for a Blu Ray release also. I just got the film on DVD and I'm so disappointed in the bonus material. None of the music videos for the main songs. Not including the "making of the film" Short with the interviews of the cast & Walter Hill. This film deserves better.

I'm all for a Blu-Ray release. I won't spend money on a (HD-DVD) player just so I can watch one movie. I did that once before when I bought a used $200 player to play my Streets of Fire Laserdisc...

it wouldn't be a total waste of money on one movie. HD DVD players can play DVDs too. Just think of it as a second DVD player.
