Whatever happend to Maltz?

The fate of final Klingon that was left when they transported onto the bird of prey and took him prisoner was never revealed. Was it mentioned in the next movie or does anyone who has read the books know if what happened to him was revealed?

reply

It's never revealed in any of the movies or show.

Here's what Memory Alpha has in the "Apocrypha" section of the Maltz article:

In the novelization of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, it is stated that Maltz committed suicide.

Alternatively, in the Genesis Wave book series, it is revealed that Maltz survived, but was disgraced by his loss of honor, causing him to hide away from Klingon society for several years before the coming of the Genesis Wave.

Cut scene from Star Trek IV:

Kirks apartment:

McCoy (raising a glass of Romulan Ale): "congratulations, Jim. You saved Earth and got a new ship. You're amazing!"

Kirk: "Thank you Bones. Still, I can't shake this feeling I forgot something..."

cut to --

interior Bird of Prey in the bottom of the sea, Maltz knocking the locked door "Hey, anybody there? Hello?"

At the beginning of Trek IV they state they've been on Vulcan for 3 months, I'm sure he was offloaded and sent back to the Klingons. That's how the Klingon ambassador would've learned so much from what happened on Genesis, Maltz was the only Klingon eyewitness and he did watch the Genesis video with Kruge.

Good point.

He went cho-e-chuing away into oblivion.

reply

They dropped him off on Vulcan, and he was turned over to the Empire.

It was just one of those story flubs.

I paged through the "The Klingon Dictionary" written by Marc Okrand and in the preface, he played himself as if he were a linguist with Starfleet Intelligence. In the preface, he thanked Maltz for his assistance in developing the dictionary.
Maybe maltz defected.

reply

The Klingon dictionary says that Malts is a prisoner of the Federation for his role in what was basically a terrorist attack, assuming that Commander Kruge acted without Klingon high command's permission in this movie. But even as a prisoner he chose to help the Federation linguists understand the intricacies of the Klingon languages.

The computer game Star Trek Klingon Academy takes the joke further. Somebody says that there are rumors Maltz was taken prisoner and is helping the Feds better understand Klingon & that it's a total lie and the official empire position is that "Maltz died a hero with the rest of his crew."

He got sent to night court. :-) ;-)

he did not deserve to live

I seem to recall him being called as a witness against Kirk in the novelization of "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", though it has been close to 25 years since I read that and my memory may be wrong.

reply

He got combined with Hopz, Barcley and Walter and left to ferment on the hot Vulcan plains.

He got sent 10 years back in time and narrated the opening of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie (actor John Laroquette was the TCM narrator)
