New York looks wonderful in this film

This is one of the most romantic movies ever made, even today it really hits me with feelings.

But one thing I've noticed watching it today is how beautifully shot New York is in this movie. All the scenes of Hanks and Madison strolling the streets at day and night on their numerous dates, New York is shot so wonderfully by Ron Howard's camera.

Why are there so few posts about this classic movie here!?

I totally agree. New York looks amazing in this film. I fell in love with the place when i first saw "Splash" 24 years ago. For years i daydreamed aobut going there and in 2001, i finally got there!. It was fantastic visiting some of the places from the movie. I got to various locations and was in heaven.
"Splash" painted New York in a real positive light. A lot of the filming was so special to look at:)

I also was inspired to go to NY because of this film. Haven't made it yet, but does it look as good as in the movie??

Well i went 17 years after the movie first came out so of course a lot had changed but i had no disappointment whatsoever. I went to the section fo central park where the skating rink scene was filmed- just outside of the plaza hotel. I also went to Bloomingdales and walked down Madison Avenue. I visited the American Museum of Natural History and walked down the stairs Allen,Freddie and Walter walked down. The whale was still hanging from the roof.
I hope you get to go. It's fabulous:)

I was there when they shot the scene where the car crosses the divider sad to say I didn't have a camera with me that day.
The building near where that was shot used to be Paramount's NYC HQ, I worked in the computer rm from 1981 to 1986. Its a TRUMP Hotel now.

Is anyone here aware that some of the Disney staff had a prayer meeting when they found out there were going to be nudes scenes?

Trust me you'll have a great time.

If you like to check out a few movie sites in Brooklyn:
Take the D train to Bay 50th St where the car/train chase started in
"The French Connection"
Get back on that train one stop to Coney Island and then the F to Ave U walk five block east, then one block north (Ave T and East 5th St) for the Capo's
house from the Godfather.
Go back down to Coney Island take the Q to Neck Road to where the Black neigborhood was in "A Bronx Tale"

Back to Coney Island for the boardwalk seen in many films:

"Over the Brooklyn Bridge" etc

NYC is a great place. Sure, parts are dirty, like any big city. But that's far outweighed by all the beautiful and interesting places. It's best to plan ahead so you know how to get around (subway is usually best) and know what you want to see, since if you just show up it'll take you several days to figure it out. It's a good place just to wander too, but your legs will get awfully tired if that's all you do. I think other cities (especially in Europe) are more interesting if you just want to wander.

The biggest downside is that it's so expensive to stay in NYC. Having a friend to stay with is a huge benefit, more so than in any other US city. Having lots of time is good for seeing places, but in NYC that has to be combined with a good bit of money, again unless you have a friend to stay with.

I sometimes walk by 57th & Madison Avenue (which is where Allan and Madison were walking when she was named) and have myself a Splash moment. To this day nearly 27 years after seeing the movie originally I always think of that movie when walking on Madison.

I love the shots of NYC to see what movies are playing. You can see in the background The Outsiders, Evil Dead, and Flashdance. So obviously this movie was filmed in the spring of 1983. Tom Hanks was only 26 going on 27! So young.

i have lived in nyc my whole life..for better or worse, quicker than other cities or slower, but the city has changed incredibly over the last 35 years...but i will always appreciated the fact that new york will always be forever young thanks to the movies..

Was all the New York scenes really filmed in New York? Filming in New York can be very expensive. Some filmmakers film in Toronto and try to make it look like New York. I despise New York. I live about ten miles west of Manhattan in New Jersey. Everything in New York is a hassle and everything is expensive.
