I loved the film beginning to end but out of mire curiousity, what other alternative ending would you have come up with?
Allen just going back to his sad and lonely life for a few days then Madison returns Or that they never get back together.
I wonder what Ron was thinking when writing it?
It HAD to end with Madison and Allen together.

I have to disagree there, although since the beginning of the movie you could see that coming.
My point is that it's too obvious, and of course too common for a love story... it'd be great if it wasn't always ending like this.
There seems like there could've only been two options for the ending. The one we got where Allen leaves his life behind and goes with Madison or Madison leaving her life behind and staying with Allen.
Lots of movies have several different options for the ending, but Splash seems to only have two.
