Did Tom Hanks turn into a mermaid at the end or something?
I keep hearing from a friend that Tom Hanks turned into a mermaid at the end of the movie or so. Or is there a deleted/extended scene that shows this?

shareBasically she has the power to bring one person back with her to the ocean and suddenly they can breathe underwater and live like she does or something, which doesn't make any sense, but then again...this is a movie about a mermaid! :) He doesn't become a fish or anything, though. And in the made for t.v. sequel I think he's still got his legs.
shareIt is left up to you, the viewer to decide if he keeps his legs or becomes a merMAN.
shareJust think of the MST3K Mantra (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MST3KMantra)
"If you’re wondering how he [Joel/Mike] eats and breathes
And other science facts
Then repeat to yourself 'It’s just a show,
I should really just relax.'"
He can only breathe underwater when he's with Madison - she mentions how when he almost drowned when he was a kid he was ok because he was with her.
"Just because you understand the mechanics of how something works doesnt make it any less of a miracle"
He doesn't turn into a Mer-MAN, alot of people claim that at the end of the movie right before you see the undersea kingdom he gets a tail, which is not true, he simply swims with his legs together for a brief second.
Everyone's entitled to one good scare...
I think when she kisses him underwater he's able to breathe. That's just my theory. Like someone else said, it's left up to the viewer.
shareHey, It could happen.
shareI agree with you. Did anyone else link this to go Daryl Hannah's compulsive kissing of Tom Hanks while she's out of the water?
Best film ever.
