It's sexism, not pedophilia.


I think the film is suggesting (without adequate condemnation, by the way) that it's sexism that causes the father's (mis)behavior. The mom is blamed for emasculating him by getting a job outside the home, something his own dad would never have allowed. I've heard the idea repeated in relation to something called Stearns County Syndrome - a pattern of incestuous behavior among men in rural, patriarchal Catholic families. It's portrayed in the movie, PRIEST, and described in Tom North's book, TRUE NORTH, about incest in the YOURS, MINE, AND OURS family of Beardsleys and Norths. The men are attracted to power, to their right to do what they want with their own.
