the real N@#$#@
First off let me say that i am african american to stop any possiblities of this post going off subject into "you cant say that word land" and missing the point entirley.
anyway, i feel that the realest thing about this movie is sarges final drunken moments when he realizes that all this time, he's been the worst N-word of all. i have encountered many of these people in my life time. ones that are ashamed (in some degrees understandably) by some of the embarassing things ignorant blacks can do to mess up the name. but he (and many others) take it to a point of being ashamed of blacks for white people. and in turn become the biggest "geechi's" of all. trying to gain favortism in the eyes of whites. constantly seeking there approval. doing anything to be accepted. as he was confronted by the white soldiers you could see him realizing this. telling them what his father (who was also appearantly very self hating) would tell him to do to be more like the white man. even in the bar when he is telling his comrades how he wants his son to think and act like the white man shows that he wants be as far from what he knows as black as possible, all because this is what he has been taught. (much like uncle ruckus of the boondocks who actually kinda sounds like him now that i think about it). this to me is the saddest black man of all. sure there are many embarrassing things to mark in history if your black (most of them thanks to down south rap and bobby brown) but there are also many good things. and what race doesnt have embarrassing marks in there history (well samoans do have a clean record). i feel that he hated knowing that he came from slaves and poor. but felt that it really all came crashing down when as he put, "the game was fixed" knowing that no matter what you do as a people, your always going to be seen as "N@#$@RS" this to me is what made for such a powerful movie and such an interesting character. the fact that there are many out there like this. think about it. whenever a character in a film makes a fool out of his/herself. and is black, how many times is it deemed embarassing to the race. mike epps, deray davis, monique, ive seen more than a few post of them being called BIG, IGNORANT, AND BLACK for being loud and unfunny, but when there white counterparts are guilty of the same unfunny baffonery they arent held to the same standards, (jim carey, carrot top, any american pie movie after the third one) most of it comes from us, other african americans who still, like sgt waters, want to look good in front of the white man. and in closing no im not some conspiracy theorist or anti white person, just showing how real this film was and how well it dwelled into our beliefs as a people.
p.s. sorry for the long post.
