shareDefinetely better than the color purple! You're insane.
<This movie is great though. However it could never touch TCP.>
For some reason, I never cared for TCP at all. However, I did like A Soldier's Story.
For some reason, I never cared for TCP at all.Eh... that's odd. If you can sit through that movie without watering up at some point or another, you ought to check your pulse..

Very few films fill one with the magic of TCP.>
I don't think you are going to like this, but to me, TCP was one of the most boring films that I have ever seen.
I don't think that there was anything 'magic' about it. Sorry.
I totally agree TCP was very boring and not a very good movie at all, pure Oprah hype machine. TCP is on my bottom 10, it don't even compare with A Soldiers Story.
shareIt could be. "Glory"'d give it a run for the money. Mind you, on a career basis, I think Jewison would take the "white directed black movie" crown hands-down with "In The Heat of the Night", "A Soldier's Story" and "Hurricane". The man's got a sense.
shareLet's see... you've got "Cabin In The Sky," "Green Pastures," and "A Raisin In The Sun" to consider first. Those three pictures have a historical significance that "A Soldier's Story" can't touch. Don't get me wrong; "A Soldier's Story" is a great film. But those first three have legs, casts, and--again--historical weight.
shareTCM (Turner Classic Movies) showed "A Soldier's Story" as of tonight for the cable network's premiere feature. And it was shown in the letterbox format for the first time that way you saw it in the theatres.
I did not care much for The Color Purple either. I don't know how fair it is to compare it to A Soldiers Story as they are very different types of films. TCP is more of a chic flick. Then, none of the men had a backbone. 2 strikes with me right there. I did enjoy seeing something different than the typical Hollywood fare, though. I tend to agree with the OP. Jewisons track record is without peer.
The truth is spoken here.
