From the main cast, 3 actors ended up passing away in their prime

I find that quite odd, as I always had hoped that they had continued their acting career as long as possible after their stellar performance in this movie.

Can I assume you are referring to Howard Rollins, Adolph Caesar, and Larry Riley? Rollins was a drug abuser and Riley was a womanizer in which he later succumbed to the deadly AIDS virus. As for Caesar, I guess it was just his time, although unexpected at age 52. Nevertheless, they all were excellent performers.

There were four if you include the late John Hancock. Hancock was the older, heavyset sergeant. I saw him in one other film and I thought that he did a good job there as well. That was the movie Tank! with James Garner, where he played the mess hall sergeant.
It is too bad that he is gone, as I enjoyed watching Hancock.

I remember John Hancock and he was a superb performer. Not only did he do a good job in the film "Tank", but also much earlier in the mini series "Roots II" from 1979 where he played a Naval Chief Petty Officer. What a shame that he died during his recurring role in the sitcom "Love & War".

Acally, there were five, also including Trey Wilson (Col. Nivens), who passed away from a heart attack at age 51.

Sad coincidence. This was one of the fnest ensemble movies ever made.

Actually Trey Wilson always looked (and played roles) older than he was...he was only 41 when he died.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

Ok? Why is that relevant? Does that somehow lessen the loss of their lives?

reply

Honestly I wasn't acquainted with any of them until I saw this film. But it's always sad to know that such great actors passed away being young most of them. RIP
