Runaway/Stargate
Did the spiderbots in Runaway inspire the Replicators in Stargate? They look very similar, even down to their acid spray.
shareI never thought about it that way, but interesting connection. They also could both be pulling off just a simple mini-machine/nanotechnology/crawly-metal idea. But I bet at least one person on the Stargate crew has seen this flick at some point.
shareI always thought of this movie when the replicators showed up. In Alias this season, Marshall had a spy toy that also looked like some of the bots from Runaway.

and don't forget the mini-spiderbots in Minority Report.
to say they can all be traced back to this film is a bit far-fetched i think, more likely that sci-fi writers struggle to come up with original ideas very often :)
