Since I saw this in the theater when I was a kid it was my favorite movie for a long time. It inspired me to a life of adventure myself. This is not a chick alone flick as there really isn't much mushy romance involved and the romance that is involved rocks. When they finally get to the village and are dancing under the lights I just loved that. That's how life is in other countries. I experienced it myself a few times. For that matter, why aren't men supposed to like romance? Have they ever experienced it, sex matters but romance takes you to another world, sometimes it is all that matters. As I grew more mature of course other movies became more my favorites. Seven years in Tibet when I was 19 and then evolved on to other things.
