What are some movies that are similar to "Purple Rain"?

I just saw "Breakin'" and "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" for the first time in many years. The acting in those movies was so bad it reminded me of "Purple Rain". The main characters of those two movies should have used their real names and/or nicknames like most of the cast of "Purple Rain" did. Adolfo Quiñones should have been "Shabba Do" instead of Ozone, Michael Chambers should have been "Boogalo Shrimp" instead of Turbo and Lucinda Dickey should have been Lucy instead of Kelly or Special K.

The only one I can think of is Krush Groove. Most of the characters played themselves, they had different acts performing at the same club, a lot of music and two guys competing for the same girl. Plus there's the Prince and Sheila E connection (working together, long-time friends, etc).

Graffiti Bridge is the sequel to Purple Rain, and Under the Cherry Moon is another Prince musical.

Are you kidding? They were the TKO crew (Turbo, Kelly, Ozone).

"La Bamba" was like a '50s "Purple Rain" with much better acting.

Not really similar, but thought I'd give Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) a mention. The movie sucks but it has Beatles tunes sung by Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Steve Martin and even George Burns. The finale is essentially a choir containing a variety of stars, including Bonnie Raitt, Tina Turner and my personal favorite, Frankie Valli.
