shareI think it was more to do with the fact that they needed something to rhyme with four.
shareCrucifixes don't really do anything either.
shareThe Poem is made up by people after Freddy died. The song is talking about Freddy when he was alive. You lock your door to keep Freddy from coming into your house. You grab your crucifix cause if Freddy breaks in some other way, you want to make sure you make your vows to God/Jesus to go to heaven. Or at least those who are Christians. The stay up late may refer to the fact that Freddy might torture his victims through the night. The never sleep again refers to the fact that the kids he killed would never sleep again as they are dead. That's how I interpret it cause if you go by the first film it's mentioned that it was an old song by Tina.
I know some might insist that Wes Craven wanted the whole movie to be a dream but since he didn't get his way, that song is an old song that the characters are familiar with but they don't know who the Freddy is in said song.
It's an odd one, because the whole never sleep again thing implies that whoever sang it for the first time already knew that Freddy attacked you in your dreams.
But does that mean other people knew of Freddy's dream powers prior to the events of this film? And for how long? Nancy seemed familiar with the rhyme, almost as if she's known it since childhood. Has Freddy been doing this for years?
And as the OP says, if it is about Freddy as a dream demon, the OP is right? What good is shutting your door going to do?
Yeah he couldn't turn the handles with his finger blades!
