The very first scene

In the very first scene, before Roy Hobbs as a young boy, there is an older Roy Hobbs at a train station. In which stage of life is that supposed to take place? He appears to be quite old and run-down and he's carrying what looks like a bat case, but it's not his black violin case.

In the opening scene, Roy boards the train to head for New York to join the Knights after being scouted from the Heeber Oilers.

On his ride there, he remembers his time growing up on the farm and ultimately, the incident that shattered his career. So the whole first act of the film is actually a flashback.

How do you like that piece of satire?

reply

Heeber Oilers? Really? Oh my.
