Wish it explored the pitching aspect more

When I played I was a pitcher. So it's always been my favorite aspect of the game. That's why I've always loved the scenes in The Natural that showcase Roy's pitching abilities. It seems like as good of a hitter as he was, it was always a back up to what he was truly meant to be - a pitcher.

One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when he whiffs his teammate during practice. I actually think this was a missed opportunity. Everyone acts stunned and even Pop/Red comment "Did you see that?". Yet no one ever mentions it afterwards. I personally would've loved to have seen Roy get called in as a reliever and have at least one inning as a major league pitcher.

It could have explored a lot more about "real" baseball. This is a movie more about the myth of baseball (whatever that is). Most of the ABs shown are either a strikeout or a home run and hardly anything in between.

As a result, I've always been lukewarm about the film. Eight Men Out is an example of a film where at least you feel like you're watching real games, not sentimental guff set to a snappy tune.
