For trying to bench him and then being a fvcking hypocrite about. Play by the rules? Like Roy said he was there everyday but Pops didn't want to give him a chance.
bushtony and his mother suffer from Congential Stupidtiy and they didn't see it coming.
Did you watch the whole movie? Pops was a man who gave everything he had to the game, and was getting stomped on. He had a deal with his partner (the Judge) to sell out to him at the end of this season unless he won the pennant. The Judge was doing everything he could to make the Knights a failure, and now the Judge signed an aging rookie who never played major league ball and forces him on the roster. Yeah, Pops was bitter and wasn't very nice about it, but Hobbs really should and taken the carny hypnotist's BS like everyone else. Hobbs was bitter because he wasn't playing. After they argued about it, Pops evidently saw something in Hobbs, and told him to show up for batting practice and eventually got him into the game. The rest is history.
What's the harm in Roy at least practicing? Pops is a bitter POS and everything that happened to club wasn't Roy's fault. Pops had every intention of getting rid of Roy. As I have said Roy should have hit Pops in the fv cking mouth.
I could see if the Knights were tearing it up and he was afraid Hobbs would derail that but they were going nowhere. If you're going to lose anyway at least try the new/old guy for a few games then if he sucks you can then say "we're sending you down, it didn't work" but to not even try it wasn't fair. Even with Hobbs (rightfully) not doing the hypno thing, still isn't right. It's sad if Pops really thought that stuff would work.
You have to remember, this was the 1930's and Pops diabeetus was pretty bad and out of control. They didn't know about things like Quaker Oatmeal keeping his cholesterol levels down and getting his free diabeetus testing supplies.
