I really, really want to see this film very badly. But reading the reviews, there is a mixture of "genuinely frightening" and "hilariously bad". which is it? there is a pirated dvd on ebay, but i don't want to spend ten dollars on a unscary movie. so, are there any real frights, or is the whole thing pure cheese? thanks a lot.

I saw this movie years ago on video. Its not the best of the best and it is very chessy but remember, many horror films in the 80's were that way. One thing about this film that grossed me out was a scene that shows what occurs during the embalming process. The scene is graffic to say the least. This was one of the main selling features of this film when it was released.
I rented it from a video store. If I were in your shoes, I would check with rental stores in your area. Start with the small chains first. Also, consider doing some research on the Net. There are some stores that specialized in films like this. I would use eBay as a last resort. You never know what you may find.
