I saw this film a long time ago when I rented it on VHS. All I can remember thinking is that the video box cover was much cooler and scarier than the film itself. Of course this was 25 years ago. Should I give it another chance? Or was my first impression correct?
Your first impression's pretty much correct. All the characters other than Bill Paxton's are dull and uninteresting, and a good chunk of the film is just filler with various characters arguing with one another.
Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for.
The poster is SO great! Tough for the film to even compete with it. Not that it tries very hard, but still...
People are getting killed for no reason. The killer has no motivation. The kills are pretty mediocre. Linda Day George looks spectacular, and Bill Paxton is the one actor with any actual acting skill present, if that helps any!
WARNING: If you are going to watch this, avoid the IMDb photo gallery ahead of time, it gives away the killer's identity.
I'm pleased I read your warning. I was about to look on IMDb' photo gallery to see if there were any alternative posters for this movie. Really good posters like this one always draw me to a film especially in the horror genre. I'm going to give this one a try.
