OF COURSE HE RIPPED IT OFF BY DOING A SCENE IN THE MUD!RAMBO 2 WAS JUST A RIP OFF OF THESE MOVIES ANYWAY.REMEMBER THEY CAME OUT FIRST.

First off, Missing in Action wasn't even FILMED before Rambo: First Blood Part II! So, how could it rip off Missing in Action??

James Cameron wrote a story treatment for Rambo II in 1983. Cannon Films heard about the storyline and filmed Missing in Action 1 & 2 back-to-back so that the releases of each film would predate Rambo: First Blood Part II (hence the low budgets of each film, the quick production and the identical plots).

You can't actually be that naive to believe that James Cameron would ripoff a sh-tty Chuck Norris B-movie. When would he have been able to? Rambo II was filmed BEFORE Missing in Action!

Rambo: First Blood Part II was filmed from June 1984 - August 1984, and was in post-production for 9 months until its release in May 1985.

Whereas, Missing in Action 1 & 2 were filmed back-to-back from June 1984 - October 1984, keep in mind Missing in Action 2 was filmed FIRST because it was NOT intended to be a prequel, it was intended to be be the first MIA movie. Missing in Action was filmed AFTER Missing in Action 2 and AFTER Rambo II. But, the producers found that the "sequel" was better than the "original" so they released Missing in Action as the "original" only ONE MONTH after it was filmed (finished filming in October, then released in November 1984), and remember Rambo II was completed in August 1984, just when they started filming Missing in Action. And, its "prequel (Missing in Action 2)" was released ONLY 4 MONTHS after the "original".

What movie studio releases a sequel only FOUR MONTHS after the original??

And, what was the reason they filmed Missing in Action 1 & 2 back-to-back coinciding with the production of Rambo: First Blood Part II and subsequently released the movies 6 months and 2 months before Rambo II, respectively?? TO CASH IN BEFORE RAMBO II WAS RELEASED, SO THAT THE MISSING IN ACTION MOVIES WOULDN'T BE DUBBED AS DOLLAR-STORE RIPOFFS OF RAMBO!!

Are you even in high school?? Haven't you learned to do RESEARCH before to state your argument?? But, of course, I'm sure you will ignore this information by NOT responding to me, as you have in the past. You'll just keep telling yourself that MIA isn't a ripoff of Rambo because you're in denial. Stop being ignorant and do some f-cking research BEFORE you spout bullsh-t.

Maybe you did. But, you did not start THIS thread. My response about not responding to my debate was not directed towards you as you have claimed for some asinine reason. Why must I beat this dead horse?

ASININE is doubting a big film director would not get influenced by a not-too-successful one.
You are frustrating, you know that? I never said that. I know film directors draw influence from other films. Hell, even James Cameron drew inspirations from The Outer Limits teleplays Soldier and Demon with a Glass Hand when he made The Terminator.

I only said James Cameron was not influenced by Missing in Action when he wrote the story treatment to Rambo II in 1983. Why? Because there were NO Missing in Action films to draw inspiration from during the pre-production and production stages of Rambo II.

You are right...your idol's Harllan Ellison's Ănfluence' was so...let's say...STRONG the sci-fi writer sued the director and James decided to $ettle it out of court.
So? People sue all the time. Do you know the difference between drawing influence from other ideas to create art and completely ripping off a film's premise to score a quick buck? Have you not heard of the concept of taking old ideas and making them new again? Jaws drew inspirations from Moby Dick such as Quint (Captain Ahab) and the old archetypal story about a town being attacked by a beast, the response of the threatened town to its loss of tourist business, crops etc. and finally, the epic attempt by three men to track the beast and kill it.

Star Wars drew inspirations from Akira Kurosawa's works, most notably The Hidden Fortress (the overall plot) and Seven Samurai. Also, the Flash Gordon serials, and some of the most acclaimed westerns such as The Searchers and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Not to mention, all the archetypal characters are present. The young boy who wants to leave his home and take on the world (Luke), the old wise mentor (Obi-Wan), the renegade swashbuckler (Han) etc.

Films draw inspiration from collaborating old motifs to form something new time and time again, no different than The Terminator. These weren't shallow cash cows. The makers of these films set their sights to create their visions to share with the audience. They weren't solely trying to increase their profit margin by parasiting on an Italian actor's popularity. And, if you can't see a difference between Missing in Action and The Terminator, then I don't know what to tell ya.

THAT'S SOME HILARIOUS STUFF,NO OFFENSE.THE REASON THEY FILMED THOSE MOVIES BACK TO BACK IS BECAUSE CANNON DID THAT ALOT TO SAVE MONEY.REMEMBER THEY FILMED KING SOLOMON'S MINES AND ALLAN QUARTERMAIN & THE LOST CITY OF GOLD BACK TO BACK ALSO.

reply

THAT'S SOME HILARIOUS STUFF, NO OFFENSE.
Which part of it was hilarious? The fact that I do research and present actual FACTS in my posts and not just spout out bullsh-t like you? Do you have any counter argument whatsoever, or are you going to remain in denial and believe that Missing in Action is original? Even film critics have acknowledged that Chuck Norris copies Stallone with MIA. And, the BBC even wrote an article about the Rambo ripoffs of the 80s, highlighting the Missing in Action series as the main perpetrator.

Will you still ignore the fact that Rambo II was filmed BEFORE Missing in Action?

THE REASON THEY FILMED THOSE MOVIES BACK TO BACK IS BECAUSE CANNON DID THAT ALOT TO SAVE MONEY.
And, also to maximize their profit margins by releasing TWO Rambo-esqe films before the actual Rambo movie. Honestly, if they filmed MIA 2 first and then MIA 1, and then release MIA 1 first (because they felt it was better), it just illustrates the producers had no faith in these movies whatsoever.

Back to the Future Parts II and III were filmed back-to-back as well. But, they were sequels to the ORIGINAL Back to the Future movie. It's not like they made MIA 1, released it, made a profit, and then decided to make MIA 2 & 3 together. Name another movie where they filmed the first one and the second together, and released them only 4 months apart. What the hell kinda movie has its FIRST sequel released only 4 months after the original one?

YOU'RE KIDDING ME RIGHT?SERIOUSLY?YOU AND I CAN ARGUE THAT FOREVER AND WE WILL,BUT IN THE PUBLIC'S EYE,STALLONE COPIED HIM.THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE RELEASE DATES.MISSING IN ACTION 11/16/84,MISSING IN ACTION 2:THE BEGINNING 3/1/85,AND RAMBO II 5/22/85.DO THE MATH.IF BOTH FILMS WERE FILMED BACK TO BACK,AND ONE WAS RELEASED IN NOVEMBER OF 1984 AND THE OTHER IN MARCH OF 1985,THEN BOTH OF THE FILMS HAD TO START BEING FILMED IN 1983,OR EARLY 1984.AND TO TOP IT OFF JAMES CAMERON WROTE A SCREENPLAY IN 1984 CALLED FIRST BLOOD II:THE MISSION.SO IF HE WROTE THAT IN 1984 AND THEN STALLONE CHANGED THE ENTIRE THING,HOW COULD IT BE FILMED BEFORE BOTH MISSING IN ACTIONS?

reply

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE RELEASE DATES
The bottom line is NOT the release date, you f-cking retard!

Jesus Christ! Are you really that f-cking stupid?? I mean, seriously, are you?? Rambo II was filmed BEFORE Missing in Action. Rambo II finished filming in August 1984. Missing in Action finished filming in October 1984. Movies don't go to the theater immediately after they're filmed. There's a post-production phase, which is used to edit and promote the film. The Missing in Action movies were produced cheaply so the post-production phases were shorter than the post-production phases of big budget action movies, like Rambo II. Hence, why Missing in Action went to the theater first. How could Rambo II copy Missing in Action if Rambo II was filmed BEFORE Missing in Action??

Seriously, how hard is it to understand?? It doesn't matter when it was RELEASED. It matters when each of them were produced. Christ, did your parents drop you on your f-ckin' head?? Cannon Films ripped off movies all the time. What do you think Firewalker was? An "original" film? It was an utter rip-off of Indiana Jones.

So, according to your rationale, if I wrote a term paper on American business in February, and Joe Schmo copied my term paper exactly and turned it in BEFORE I turned in mine, I copied Joe Schmo because I turned mine in later. According to you, yes, I copied Joe Schmo.

Do you have ANY common sense? And, no, the general public does NOT think Stallone ripped off Chuck Norris. Just read these user comments and see how many people say Missing in Action copied Rambo:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087727/usercomments

The general public doesn't think Stallone copied Norris. And neither do the critics. Even the BBC published an article how Cannon Films ripped off Rambo.

Wow, it took you OVER A MONTH to come up with THAT?? Why is it that it always takes you WEEKS to reply to one of my posts? Does the truth hurt so much? Is it because your mommy gives you a time limit on the computer? . Yea, due to my capacity to think rationally, I'm not a basement dweller like you. I have my own apartment. A few other questions: Why do you always type in all CAPS? Why is there never a space between your sentences? Did you fail English / computer class?

WOW YOU REALLY ARE A RETARD?
Really? What part of my post (minus the deserved insults at your expense) DOESN'T sound like it was well thought out, valid, researched, logical or rational? Why is it that when you reply to me that you NEVER address ANY of my valid points? I guess I'll have to wait another month for an answer. See ya in March!!
