i just bought the movie clash of the bionoids that was suposed to be a dubbed version of macross the movie.

i like the changes that were made fom the macross tv series like the older charicter design and the higher quality animation

the english dubbing is bad but tolerable,the problem i have is the movie does not make sense in a lot of places and is confusing.

1. why are they already on the ship with the built city insted of the island and worping into space ect,ect.

2. during the the battle on the ship rick rescues minmay and it is the first time they met. didnt he rescue her on the islad and they were already friends at that point.

3. roy folker he is in a battle, we hear him over the raido say he loves claudia,he disapeares for the rest of the movie. ????????

4.max stearling is fighting,shoota a battle suit, sees a large vearsion of his wife and daina's mother covered in blood,disapeares from movie. ??????

5. the earth is a dead wastland and the people on the macross are the only humans left and there is a giant flying city from the robotech masters crashed into the earth. big !??!? WHAT????

6. all the battles seem like they went through a paper shreader and are over so fast.

7. rick flies into the command ship,blows it up,gets killed,and yet minmay and lisa are still happy and celebrating and the movie ends.

8. the animation is good but the artists made a lot of mistakes with people talking and their faces halfway on screen,off screen,people listing to a talking arm, ect.

i am a big anime fan but he makers of macross realy slipped with this film. were they tired after making the series or was it made by diffrent people who didnt care about macross. even carl macek was more respectful when turning the series into robotech.

Clash of the Bionoids was NOT a dub of the Macross movie, but was dubbed, and edited for younger audience.

1,2-Also, since the this movie was originally made in 1984, a full two years after the TV series, it assumes that viewers are fans or have already seen the Macross TV series. Thus, the city was already on the Macross, and Hikaru and Minmay had NOT met at that point.

3-Roy Focker dies. Thus he's not in the rest of the movie.

4-Max Jenius is seen telling Millia that it's "Minmay singing", and piloting the Q-Rau in the final battle sequence.

5-That city belong to the Protoculture people (no, not the fuel as per Robotech), that was submerged and hidden when the war reached Earth before humans were around. It's just that after the Zentradi attack the city re-emerged thinking it's owners/creators had returned.

6-I think the team wanted to make it fast-paced and exciting. I personally believe it worked, but to each his own.

7-Hikaru doesn't die. Infact he REPORTS that his mission was accomplished to the bridge crew.

8-No idea what you're talking about here, but then I haven't seen the movie in a while.

Note that Macross: Do you remember love? was a movie created by the original creator's in Japan (let by Kawamori Shoji, the creator and driving force of the Macross franchise to this day), so I suggest you watch that instead of Clash of the Bionoids.

is the uncut version avalible in the us. i dont have a all region player so it needs to be regin 1 or 0.

how much was cut and does it show some of the things like roy getting killed, rick surving, and other stuff not made clear in the us edit.

mabey it was pan and scaned from a widescreen version. it is claimed to be 1.85 on some websites.

it seems that the problems are just from a badly done us realese and i most likely will like the movie better once i see the original.

Unfortunatly, due to legal wranglings, and licensing companies going belly up since the early 90's, there won't be a region 1 version of this movie in a long while, and most likely board policies prevent me from stating where to get a R0 verion of the filem.

How much was cut? Honestly I have no idea since I've never seen the "Clash" version, and always went for the original (mostly through Fansubs of yesteryear).

Oh, and yes the original version was done in widescreen.

well hopefuly the rights issue can be cleared up sometime as almost all the other macross stuff is on regin 1 dvd.

thed bionoids version is 1 hour 33 minets long.

if the info i read is correct it cuts out all of the deaths like roys, a decapitation during the transformation, minmay singing a song while traped with rick(suposibly to remove a nude scene of her) and lisas shower scene on earth, and rick and the other pilots coming back alive after the final battle(it shows the mothership exploding,the sdf crew celebrating,minmay looking into space,end credits) and other little snipets of footage. however, i need someone with the uncut to conferm this.

FYI, the original movie was about 2 hrs long.

Oh, there was no Misa shower scene in the original.

Most of the other stuff was pretty much what you said.

it looks like i need to try to find the uncut japanese version and the us edit needs to be forgoten about forever. and i now take back what i said about the movie as the bad dubbing and cutting out of nearly 30 minets ruend what looks to be an exelent film.

to bad carl macek and harmeny gold couldnt have gotten it with the other 3 series.

i dont have the original macross,southern cross,or mospedia sets yet but i do have the robotech remastard protoculture collection with all the violence and nudity restored plus extras discs and i can picture the kind of special edition relese h.g. and adv films could have put out of the movie.

anyway, thanks for the help as i have a new respect for the film now.

Stop calling the Rick and Lisa pls. It's Hikaru Ichijyo Misa Hayase in the Macross Universe. All of it leads up to the Megaroad leaving Earth to explore the center of the galaxy which is explained in Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier. Robotech is a spliced up version of Macross and is made that way to be more digestable to the US audience. Macross Universe and Robotech Universe, completely different.

the only thing i hate about Robotech and Macross is that Rick/Hikaru doesn't stay wih Minmay.... jeezzz in what kind of brain can fit that .... god damn you Shôji Kawamori I hope your sons would die in a nuke...
