Regarding Lovelines, I respectfully disagree. IMHO, Lovelines is a wonderful little movie. When I watched this on HBO back in 1986, I wasn't even aware of the film nor was I aware of any negative critical reviews for it. I was 16 years old at the time and though I am in my mid 40's, I still enjoy this movie. IMHO, it's much better than most of those many other teen exploitation fare of it's time. Plus, it's an '80's film with all the elements of the '80's. I'm am '80's kid myself and I enjoyed and still enjoy everything that the '80's had to offer in the entertainment department, such as music, movies and TV shows, including, but not limited to, cartoons shown on Saturday mornings.
The film you mentioned, To Find a Man, is an early '70's film and the '70's was a much different decade than the '80's was. My childhood was in the '70's, but my youth was in the '80's and things were different in that decade as it was also different in the '70's.
It only took me one viewing of Lovelines to see the hidden greatness this particular film has. I am not saying that it is "a great movie" by any stand or stretch, but it is a FUN movie and I mean F-U-N as it is a fun movie to watch. There's lots of music in it and it has lots of partying, romance and everything that was part of the '80's. My feelings for Lovelines will never change. I still love this movie and I have watched it a little over a dozen times and I never get tired of it. I still enjoy it to this day and my feelings have never changed for it.
Movies like this need to be watched with an open mind. With open mindedness, hidden greatness can be discovered and once it's discovered, the movie can be appreciated and then, enjoyment ensues. When hidden greatness of any movie is discovered, feelings change and the person sees that the movie isn't as bad as they thought it was before. I watch movies with an open mind all the time and there are many movies that I enjoy as a result of that. Of course, there are movies that I don't like as well. Every movie will have people that love it despite any negative things said about it as there will also be people who won't like it at the same time.
By the way, the "High School Musical" series is a product of the late 2000's as it has all the elements of the 2000's and what made the 2000's. Each and every decade, once it begins, has it's elements and attitudes.
Of course, solex10, you do have a right to your own opinion and I do respect your opinion, even though I do disagree with it. It's cool. Thanks for posting.
