bess amstrong

Does anyone know why Bess Amstrong didn't continue her role in Lace 2? I really liked her in Lace 1, and when I saw that she wasn't in the next one, I was really disappointed. Can anyone recommend any other movies that she did? It looks like she was mostly in TV.

Sure. Bess Armstrong is a wonderful actress who has done her best work on tv. Particularly in the much-loved and lamented ABC series My So-Called Life, with Claire Danes. I have alwasy heard conflicting things as to why Bess didn't do Lace 2, the lovely Deborah Raffin took over the part, but i heard it was a prior commitment to something else. For more of Bess look for "Dream Lover" with James Spader, she is excellent. Also "Pecker" by John Waters. I haven't seen Bess in awhile, which is a shame because even in pieces of trash like Jaws 3-D, she was wonderful to watch and listen too.

I've heard conflicing stories... 1. she wanted more money and 2. she found the sex/rape scenes her character took on in the sequel offensive.

Dammit Carol Sue, where is the vodka?!

I think one of her Best roles was High Road To China. It's one of my favorite movies and has a lot of style like Lace but in a totally different way (1920's). It an romantic adventure movie and unfortunately just as hard to find on DVD as Lace.

I've got High Road To China on DVD...bought it four years ago. I think I got it from a department store. I haven't seen Lace though. And I agree that Bess Armstrong was wonderful in HRTC.
