I kinda knew it was Judy (Bess) since the doctor said that out of the three of them, she was the least likely of the three to be suspected to be the one pregnant. Plus, she was the one who came up with the Lucinda Lace name (the "name" of the mother) since she wrote the stories, the magazine named "Lace" and Lace was a part of Lili's name. Pagan (very outspoken) and Maxine (very seductive) were kinda obvious choices for the mother cuz of the personalities but you would suspect Judy since she kinda came off as the good girl that could never do wrong. So yeah, I kinda figured it was Judy, but since she turned down the vote towards the end and made the suggestion that the brith mother go on her own, it made it pretty clear who the mother was.

This was my first time seeing the movie since I heard about the famous line and I mean, there were times that I thought maybe Pagan or maybe Maxine, then all the Lace references were brought up and it became clear that it was Judy.
shareI kind of suspected that Pagan might have been the mother because of her resemblance to Lily, especially that black hair! The fact that Lily had sex with Alexander made it clear that Maxine could not have been the mother, becaue suggesting brother/sister incest would have been too controversial for a tv movie. Btw i hate Lace II because it totally ruins the romantic relationship of Pagan and Abdullah, by suggesting that Abdullah raped Judy on the same night that he took Pagan's virginity! That sequel was total trash, no wonder Bess Armstrong wouldn't have anything to do with it.
sharenot to mention that if you've read Lace 2 Lili has a romantic & sexual relationship with Abdullah...gross!!!!
still, I'd love to rewatch this, brings back memories of being 11 and getting to stay up just to watch it 8)

But...that's what happens in the book (though I don't remember it being a night he was with Pagan, as well.) Judy is working as a maid in his hotel for extra money, and he's drunk (on New Years Eve or something?) and rapes her.
Maybe it's the night young Pagan broke up with him or something. Anyway, I think he's in a bad mood...? share
Yes, but the problem is that none of that is included in the movie "Lace.." "Lace 2" is a sequel to the movie, not the book. So it comes across as inconsistent; In Lace 1 Abdullah is a decent, romantic guy. Then suddenly he is a lying rapist in the sequel? So much was wrong with that movie sequel besides. It was just a horrible movie on so many levels. And this is coming from someone who absolutely loves the original "Lace." I just pretend that the sequel does not exist..
