Why does Pran catch the lizard?
I did not understand the significance of Pran catching the lizard and putting it in his pocket? Was it for food? Does anyone know?

shareIt's in the book, he catches it for food. It's poignant as for SE Asians, lizards are considered dirty or creepy, as we'd consider spiders. As it turns out they started eating spiders in Cambodia during the KR time.
shareWhat was with flicking its head? If he wanted to immobilize it, I'd expect him to flick it good and hard. (I half expected him to bite its head off, like Bear Grylls might do.)
shareIt was for food. In his autobiography, Dith Pran mentions prisoners frequently ctaching and eating mice, rats, frogs, lizards, and other animals. The Khmer Rouge kept them in a state of near-starvation, and these small animals were and important source of protein.
