The cows
Maybe I'm dumb or wasn't paying attention for part of it but what was Pran doing to the cows when he got caught?

shareThey didn't explain it in the movie, but the workers were given little or no food, so Pran had to eat anything to survive. In one scene he puts a lizard in his pocket, to eat later. He cut the cow so that he could drink some of its blood. In both cases he had to be careful, because taking food from the "collective" was a serious crime. In fact, the Khmer Rouge caught him drinking from the cow and tortured him.
This should give you a taste of what it was like to live in the ultimate in communist totalitarianism. Thank God that regime is gone. But the ideas that gave rise to it are still around.
I saw/understood the lizard part but wow I didn't realize he was drinking blood. That is some messed up *beep*
shareThe cows have a high tolerance to pain.
sharewhat i dont understandi is why he had to slit the 2n cow. couldnt he just suck as much as he wants from the 1st cow?
shareI am not sure, but my guess is wounds clot up rather quickly,so you can only drink so much blood. Rather than cutting the same cow again, he cut the second cow so that if the khmer soldiers noticed a cut on the cow they would assume it to be from natural causes (two or three cuts on the same cow seems a little suspicious!)
