Why was he killed suddenly by his own man?
shareI think its a statement referring to when he said something like "The government isn't what I thought it would be". I don't remember exactly but I think he was shot to show how unstable and violent the khmer rouge were.
shareAfter he caught Dith listening to the radio broadcast (in English, no less) we see the discussion (more like Phat's confession) of his disillusionment of Pol Pot's vision of Year Zero.
He realized that Dith was an educated man, a hard-worker, caring & loving... who was also the enemy & to be exterminated. This is not the Utopia he had signed up for. I agree with frodereck; Phat's death symbolizes KR's instability, recklessness & intolerance.
