I always got the impression that they still had unresolved feelings for one another despite the bitterness and anger. There are hints of it throught the film, mostly in scenes when Albert tells Casey it's okay to tell Lucy that he is no longer hung up on Blake who as left him by this time. Not to mention Albert and Lucy wind up having sex after going out for drinks of course it's ruined by Albert picking the wrong time to ask about a job. But near the end in the car on they way to the restauraunt Albert eyeing Lucy through the rear view mirror the looks they give each other when Albert calls her "Luce" his nickname for her. True the anger and bitterness is gone between them but there is definately some hints of sparks between them. I agree that realisticly in most cases they wouldn't reconcile but it is possible, and the movie ends giving a glimmer of hope of a possible reconcilation between the two parents. Both have grown learn from the past mistakes and put their daughter first. If they got back togehter I truly don't believe they would make the same mistakes.
