What do you think? I think yes, based upon the looks they exchange at the restaurant scene at the end of the movie. But...perhaps they've just reached a truce and an acceptance of their status quo? Thoughts?
shareI find it hard to believe that Albert and Lucy would ever reconcile, but I think by the film's end, that they have defnitely decided to keep their relationship more civil for Casey's sake.
shareI like to think that they will reconcile. Now that they are being civil to each other and are putting their daughter first, there still seems to be a spark between them. I think the screen writer ended the story on a high note, giving us to hope that maybe, someday, they can all live together as a family.
shareBoth of them were humbled and publicly humiliated. And their creativity was gone. Lucy, I suspect, was a one book writer on her own. And Albert on his own could only make movies that recycled older movies (which is what people complained about Bogdanovich).

But you do see them being attracted to each other once more. Remember her warm, happy smile when he calls her "Luce" again. And remember how she pretended to mistake which day was hers because she wanted to "accidentally" run into him.

I assume the ending was supposed to be a reconciliation, but they seem to leave that open to interpretation. Funny that the judge's ruling is never shown; the girl is just living with the housekeeper.
shareI always got the impression that they still had unresolved feelings for one another despite the bitterness and anger. There are hints of it throught the film, mostly in scenes when Albert tells Casey it's okay to tell Lucy that he is no longer hung up on Blake who as left him by this time. Not to mention Albert and Lucy wind up having sex after going out for drinks of course it's ruined by Albert picking the wrong time to ask about a job. But near the end in the car on they way to the restauraunt Albert eyeing Lucy through the rear view mirror the looks they give each other when Albert calls her "Luce" his nickname for her. True the anger and bitterness is gone between them but there is definately some hints of sparks between them. I agree that realisticly in most cases they wouldn't reconcile but it is possible, and the movie ends giving a glimmer of hope of a possible reconcilation between the two parents. Both have grown learn from the past mistakes and put their daughter first. If they got back togehter I truly don't believe they would make the same mistakes.

Yeah, I always felt that was a touching ending with the two of them dancing together in flashback...and, yes, the song depicted their relationship almost perfectly.
I saw this movie three times when it first came out. I'll have to check it out again.
