Release this film in a widescreen anamorphic DVD version!!!!

This film has an aspect ratio that is even wider than widescreen: cinemascope (2.35:1). Which means that with the current 4x3 pan/scan version you (approx) only see HALF of the original picture.

Which is simply ridiculous!

So mr film studio: don't treat the viewer like an idiot and release this movie in a proper anamorphic widescreen version!!!

I recently rented this and was seriously disappointed to find it was butchered. Perhaps someday MCA/Universal Home Video will come to their senses and give this film a proper release.

Start a petition! I'd be more than happy to sign it! I've loved this film since I was a little kid...bawled like a baby...AND this was the movie, THE MOVIE, that made me want to be an actor. It deserves a proper widescreen release! START A PETITION!!!

You said it bro! They did the same thing for "The Thing" DVD. But that film has a HDDVD version now. "The Abyss" should also be re-released in anamorphic 16:9!

No extras, though.

I just finished watching it and it was very good. It does need a widescreen version. It sucks that it didn't have a menu. I mean come on, by April, this movie is going to 24 years old this year. It deserves a widescreen version, a menu, a trailer, a commentary by the cast and crew, maybe some extras if they can find any, or maybe just alittle documentary on the making of the movie. This movie was very good. The cast and crew did an awesome job making it. Hopefully some studio will pickup this movie and would put in all the quality it deserves.

This may not be helpful to most, but the UK version is Widescreen Anamorphic and properly cropped at 2.35:1. Simple menu and plain stereo sound, but this film demands to be seen in Widescreen. Folks with region 2 or region-free DVD players should check it out.

TGG Direct has reissued this film on Region 1 DVD in its proper 2:35:1 theatrical ratio.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!

Thanks for the info. I have the 1994 widescreen laserdisc of "Iceman". I don't know why Universal did not put the DVD in widescreen. Thanks to TGG Direct for releasing it properly.
