Yes it is a gem of the 80's all right and I just watched it for the first time in I do not know how many years! I have not seen it shown on TV in ages!

I found the effects and set design inspired, but I didn't quite like this as much as you did. 6/10 stars from me.

I gave it a 7. Movie didn't take itself too seriously and was funny as hell. I'm actually amazed at how much I remembered from it when I saw it two weeks ago for first time since the mid-80's. I love Spaceballs...but Ice Pirates I feel is better. The coward robot who starts shaking uncontrollably, or falls to pieces...LMAO...the two robots who can't stop messing with each other...the jive robot...the robot pimp...holy smokes this movie was nuts. One of the funniest space themed sci/fi comedies I can think of.
