sad scene


anybody else ever get emotional during the scene when Kate tells Billy about her father dying on Christmas Eve? First time i ever saw this movie was when i was 8 & i'm 38 now, and it still gets to me.

That scene was spoofed to great effect in Gremlins 2 if you remember.

This was a fantastic scene. I watched them one after the other and probably the biggest laugh I got was about "Lincoln" lol

I remember some of what Joe Dante said on the crew commentary. He says it's the kind of scene where you likely wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry. It wouldn't be funny if it happened to you, of course, but a listener might find the whole thing absurd.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

I didn't find it sad. It just made Kate's father sound like a great big moron to dress up as Santa and attempt to climb down a chimney. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
