cosy Xmas feel of this movie

the home, the town, the community (makes me want to live in a nice community type town like that), the Christmas card end matte painting

essential Xmas viewing

reply

Oh ya totally, i make sure i watch it every year. I get the cozy feeling too

reply

recently I got it on dvd for the sole purpose that i have it on standby to watch every Christmas

reply

I'll be watching it again this Christmas (as I've done every year!) with my (extended) family :)

reply

Super cozy Christmas viewing, even though I haven't seen it in years. And despite Phoebe Cates' Santa Clause story.

reply

Good call & something I've never thought of. Def going on Christmas week viewing list :)

other Xmas movies I have on my Xmas viewing list (not as essential as Gremlins though) - Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart version), Star Trek Generations (Picards nexus), Batman Returns (not really a fan of the film itself but Burtons xmas setting makes it a must), Sherlock Game of Shadows (for the end), Ghostbusters (not GB2 even though I think that one is set at xmas) and BTTF - ok I know BTTF isn't a Christmas movie but I just associate it with Xmas for some reason (maybe as its a similar small town set up to Gremlins, plus saw it at cinema Dec 85)

reply

Kingston Falls' (Gremlins) town square is the same town square as Hill Valley (Back to the Future).

reply

Ah!

almost time...

Rewatching Gremlins this year paying close attention to the square and see the bank where Billy works is just near to the cinema Marty drives at/into, then further down the bar where Phoebe Cates works is on the stretch where the DeLorean has to get up to 88, can even see the clock tower in the opening

reply

All snowy/christmasy of course (when one considers BTTF was set October/November 1955/85 i guess in a certain way Gremlins is like a sequel..)

reply

I love how you say it makes you want to live there...I always say things like that when I see them on movies or tv lol

reply

hard to believe the movie had been released in june '84 in the u.s.
why would studios release a christmas movie in the summer?

reply

also Die Hard and Batman Returns. its weird.

reply

Rewatched it last night , loved the build up , the town , the characters , the crazy inventions , the snow , the rules, the new mogwai , the eggs .....

Then when the actual gremlins appeared it all got cheesy and stupid ....
Then when they were killed off the film got nice and cosy again for the end...

reply

That's true.. the build up is great then the film isn't so good when the Gremlins actually show up!..

reply

Lol I feel the same way. I love Gremlins but when the gremlins start wrecking the town I lose interest. I loved everything before that

reply

Tis that time again..πŸŽ… πŸ”₯
