If You're not supposed to feed after midnight....
What would be the appropriate time to start feeding them afterward? 5 a.m?

They never actually mentioned that. Best guess is dawn, but that's only a guess.

Probably after the sun comes up, and they/he are safely hidden inside.
3rd generation American from a long line of Gottscheers... it was Drandul, dude!
It's always after midnight.
shareYeah, it's something that sounds dramatic but doesn't actually make sense.
shareWhat about daylight savings? or different time zones?
shareI used to have the "book of the film" back then . I think they brought these questions up , not with any answers though.
shareAnd what counts as "feeding"? What if they swallow something at 23:59? It's still in their stomach when it turns "midnight". Does that count as "feeding" or is it only the act of chewing and swallowing? And if so, what about introducing food via a nasal tube?
shareI've thought the same thing - EVERY time is after midnight !
It didn't even make sense to me when I was a 14yr old in a theater.
The initial pair of rules are coherent in that they are lucidly formulated and grounded in the biological aspects of the creature. In contrast, the third law finds its foundation in a human construct. Midnight, merely a linguistic tool that aims to help us understand the world better, to make order, make it easier for humans to organize their day from sunrise to sunset. Furthermore, why designate the commencement of a new day precisely at 00:00 and not 23:59, 22:00, or 02:25? Moreover, if the absence of darkness is a non-issue, where does this temporal demarcation stop?
I can understand a rule that said we can't feed them from sunset to sunrise, this can be based loosely on research (it is known, for example, that night affects the mental state of certain people) at least there are clear boundaries - daylight versus darkness. You somehow can justify it.
