G-fans let me introduce myself and get your opinions on something

I'm a young aspiring filmmaker that lives in San Antonio, Tx. Godzilla inspired me when I was a small child and since that day I have always wanted to make at least one Godzilla movie in my career. A few years ago I read the book Godzilla Returns by Marc Cerasini and all the subsequent books in the series. Since that day I have been rigourusly planning and writing a script based off this book and want to eventually try to get it approved by Toho. In mine and my associates discussion over this film we have come to a few things that we have split opinions on. I wish to get the opinions of as many G-fans as possible so that unlike Tristar I will not screw up the series by not giving the fans a chance to help. I will be posting this on all the other imdb boards as well as any other Godzilla forums I can find.

since this has the possibility of being a huge discussion I am going to split this up into several posts.

First thing I will discuss is Godzillas design

Horrizontal saurian design- (Delgado GINO design comes to mind) make sure it has the attitude of gojira. Test the cinematograhical (not sure how to spell it) quality of a fight with the design if it looks awkward then the design will not work. Speed is also an issue with this design, he an't run aroud fast because it would take away from his Godzilla attitude.

Upright Gojira type design- (Bio-goji suit design with a few changes) This is the books descibtion of Godzilla however the American public may feel that its harder to accept. I want to give him a slightly more saurian posture, not completely horrizontal but too upright either, the shinsei movies come to mind (make sure it has no hunch back like G2K suit seems to have). Spikes on back not symetrical, make them more jagged and different like the original G-54 suit. I want the legs to have the raised ankle like dinosaurs but I don't want it to be too obvious. Give him speed but only if he needs it (for instance turns faster when trying to destroy a jet...)

No matter what Godzilla would be immune to normal muntitions and have his regenerative abilities. (Note: in the book "Godzilla Returns" there is a scene in which the main characters see slowed down footage of a artillary shel hitting Godzilla. When it hits they see that chunks of flesh flew off and there is blood but less then a second later as the smoke clears the wound is gone as if it never happened) I think Godzilla should react to the munitions like maybe taking a step back when beeing hit by a barrage of missles.

please post your honest opinions on this matter and you never know if you could see your help reflected in the movie

I see this was posted a while back but I will throw my 2 cents in.
I like the bio/ghidorah suit designs the best. I agree the american public may not accept a fully upright standing monster anymore but I dont think the Tri star fully hunched over look would serve well either. I believe as long as you come up with a design similar in nature to what we have been used to for the past 50 years you will be ok. I am willing to accept changes, as science itself has changed over the years as to how dino's look and move.

I personally dig the Delgado design. It maintains the look of the classic G only updated to fit our current knowledge of saurian anatomy. When Godzilla came out in 1954, it was thought that t-rex dragged his tail, when in fact it would break his back in two or three places to actually do that.

Godzilla doesn't have to run fast, but this more athletic design would make for some very energetic fight sequences.

I also loved the Cerasini Godzilla series that random house put out. Would you incorporate elements of Godzilla 2000 into the plot (i.e. other monsters) ?

Hope its not too late to hear back from ya.

Do you remember the Godzilla jr from Godzilla vs Destroyer? He was a combination of vertical and horizontal. It worked quite well. A horizontal design is good, as long as the tail drags behing the monster, thus still evoking the original redesign.

If you're trying to play hard to get, play harder! I like it rough!

wow I kinda forgot to check back on this...sorry for it taking so long to reply.

I now have pretty much decided that I'm going to combine elements of the biogoji suit with the G'54 suit. For instance the spikes of the original are interesting because they appear mutated and not symmetrical. I think I am going to make him be a little balanced forward and have the tail be close to the ground but maybe not dragging. I'm trying to work on a few sketches but as I can't draw at all I'm looking for a few sketch artists at the moment.

I asked on that forum and got some pretty interesting responses but I'm still looking for more

I'm a decent artist and a huge G-fan, I'm more than willing to help you out with this. I'll make a few sketches and try to find away to link them to you. I don't really want to give out my e-mail to people on IMDB.

Hopefully I can come up with something for you.

Reply if you're interested.
