DVD, plus how many minutes did they cut approx.?

I was wondering, because I am making a fan-made DVD for this movie and I don't really want to have the time to go through and time all the minutes that were cut. Plus I want to add on the DVD case how many minutes were never before released.

As for the DVD, in case anyone's interested in receiving a copy once it's done. What I am doing is, I am inserting the American footage into the original Japanese footage for one ultimate cut. Now keep in mind, the Japanese footage is presented in widescreen, whereas no widescreen version was ever released for the American footage. So the scenes with Raymond Burr are cropped but just slightly. Also, the Japanese footage was in stereo, and the American in mono. What I am doing is redoing all of the sound and including new sound effects to hopefully make the movie in stereo. All of the Japanese footage will have english subtitles, and again, is presented in its original aspect ratio.

As for other stuff. I am including the original teaser and full length Japanese trailer, a German video ad, and all teh TV spots/trailers for the American release on the disc. I am also including the original Dr. Pepper commercial with Godzilla and the animated short "Bambi Meets Godzilla."

There will be a still gallery featuring publicity stills, behind the scenes photos from Japan, concept art, and original Japanese storyboards.

As of now, I am still editing the film together. My goal is to complete it in mid December 2005 and make it kind of a 20th anniversary edition. I plan on doing the same thing with the original 1956 "Godzilla" in the summer of 2006.

Would any of you been interested in seeing this?

reply

I would like to see it. How would one go about obtaining a copy?

reply

I'm still working on the DVD. Things are hectic right now because of the holiday season. However, once I am done with it I will let you know. Then, if interested, I'll send you a copy. For free that is, because this is someone else's movie and I won't and can't make a profit out of it.

I'd very much love a copy as well. Hell, I'd donate to your work if it makes it go any faster ;)
Any chance on also working on Godzilla vs. Biollante, since it's the only other one of the Heisei films not available?

reply

I have thought about doing "Godzilla Vs. Biollante." The tape I have is in widescreen and I do have the score from the film. But as of now, I haven't made any plans for sure. If I had the time, I would do it.

reply

It would be awesome if you did, but I understand the time constraints. Oh, well. I'll be at very happy at least with a DVD of this one. Hopefully Warner will give up the rights to Biollante to someone who cares about a DVD sometime in the future...

What kinds of stuff would you be willing to donate?

Hi everyone, wanted to update on the status of the DVD. Unfortunately, I am going to be out of the country for a month. But when I get back in April I'll start it up again.

Keep in mind this is a time consuming process and there are other priorities I have to take care of (Work, School, Traveling, My Friend's Band, Theatre, Paying Bills, and completeing my fan-made Godzilla movie).

In any case, my deadline to finish the DVD is December 2006 or sooner.

Thank you for being patient.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the long absence. Unfortunately, I just never had the time to work on the DVD, as many exciting things have been going on in my life.

It is a project I still would love to do. Wishful thinking. But for the time being, to compensate, I burned both the American and Japanese versions to DVD. The American version is in Full Screen, and is taken from the laserdisc. The Japanese version is in widescreen, stereo, english subtitles, but for some odd reason (it was copied from a VHS tape) there's a crackling sound that's faintly heard throughout the entire movie.

As far as features go. I added them on a 3rd disc. They include: 1. Clips from a documentary about dinosuar movies, discussing suitimation. 2. Original Japanese Teaser. 3. 2nd Japanese Teaser. 4. Original Japanese Trailer 5. Original American Trailer 6. 2 TV spots for the American Version 7. German TV Ad. 8. The Dr. Pepper Commercial with Godzilla 9. A commercial for Konica Cameras & Film with Godzilla. 10. The Short "Bambi Meets Godzilla" 11. The music video that appeared on TNT's "Monster Vision" with the song "Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult. 12. The clip of the chase scene from "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" featuring Godzilla & King Ghidorah (i've always wanted to put that as an Easter Egg). And I think that's about all I have so far. they're all recorded from a VHS tape onto DVD. There are little individual chapters but no fancy animated menus. Though I'd still love to do one.

Sometime this week, I'm going to film a collection of 8 x 10 publicity still from this movie to add as a photo gallery. As well as behind the scenes photos and original storyboard art from this film.

once I get my PC working again, I'd love to "really" edit this movie. You guys have no idea the things i want to do to gives this movie a new set of balls to make the ultimate version of this film.

I even recently bought the hard to find, out of print, soundtrack for Christopher Young's "Def-Con 4" music that was used in the American version, as well as owning "The Best of Godzilla 1984-1995" CD that has several tracks from this film.

If there's anything else you'd want me to add as far as features go, let me know. My e-mail is [email protected]
