Improvements in the US version.

Ok, the original Japanese version is far superior overall, but there are a few improvements in the "Godzilla 1985" version.

1. Sound effects. For instance, when Godzilla falls into the volcano he emits a heart wrenching screech in the US version. I miss that when I now watch the Japanese version.

2. The ending credits. Honestly, the pop song does not fit the tone of the film. The US version has much better music over the ending credits.

3. Godzilla is more bada$$ in the US version. In the Japanese version, the Japanese officials are convinced that they can stop Godzilla with conventional weapons, whereas in the US version everyone sees Godzilla as an unstoppable force of nature.

4. Raymond Burr. Although his scenes are completely unnecessary to the story, his acting is a notch above all other English speakers in the film, especially the US ambassador whose lines are very cringe worthy.

Can anyone think of anything else?

"For example, I really liked that scene where the general is responding the Japanese's plea for an intercept missile "Well, we can try that..." It makes sense that the Americans would hesitate before blasting off a weapon to stop a nuclear missile--in the Japanese version, their response is almost robotic! International cooperation is part of the beauty of Godzilla films, and this juggling of viewpoints helps to emphasize that. "

True, in the US version it is somewhat more believable, because if the missile misses two cities might get destroyed instead of one. In the original version it seems as if shooting down a nuclear missile is routine.

It's in English? lol

But seriously I can't speak Japanese. And I stopped with subtitles because it's too distracting from trying to actually watch the movie.

I would've liked in the US version though where the Russian tries to STOP the nuclear bomb. Cold war propaganda just wanted the Russians to look bad.
