Improvements in the US version.
Ok, the original Japanese version is far superior overall, but there are a few improvements in the "Godzilla 1985" version.
1. Sound effects. For instance, when Godzilla falls into the volcano he emits a heart wrenching screech in the US version. I miss that when I now watch the Japanese version.
2. The ending credits. Honestly, the pop song does not fit the tone of the film. The US version has much better music over the ending credits.
3. Godzilla is more bada$$ in the US version. In the Japanese version, the Japanese officials are convinced that they can stop Godzilla with conventional weapons, whereas in the US version everyone sees Godzilla as an unstoppable force of nature.
4. Raymond Burr. Although his scenes are completely unnecessary to the story, his acting is a notch above all other English speakers in the film, especially the US ambassador whose lines are very cringe worthy.
Can anyone think of anything else?
