We all have lots of parasites living on our bodies, feeding on us (not enough to hurt us though), Godzilla is no different. But because of how he was mutated by radiation and grew several sizes, the same happened to the parasites living on him. That thing that was on the fishing boat was a Godzilla Flea.

I always wondered what that thing was. The Japanese version probably said what it was right?

it is a mite of some sort that along with godzilla has grown. Check out the japn version they actually explain it.

I wish they'd it on TV like they do the 1954 version ever so often. It's the only one I've seen on TV that's it's original, Japanese language version.

It's a giant sea louse, irradiated off of Godzilla. Given the named "Shockirus" in fan literature. It's not too different from the parasite monsters seen in Cloverfield - hostile little critters that fall off of the huge monster and start attacking people.

They should bring this back in the reboot. But chances are many people might assume Godzilla is ripping off CLOVERFIELD.
