What happened to that deleted scene?

The whole movie builds up to a very important moment where Ren states his case in front of Shaw and the city council. But Ren is voted down. Later, Ren and Shaw have a discussion, and Ren changes Shaw's mind.

The only problem is that we, the audience, don't get to witness this discussion. We only know that they had it due to exposition. We come in after the discussion as they are parting ways.

Wasn't this discussion a very ESSENTIAL PLOT POINT? WHERE IS IT?!

Was it in the script? Was it filmed? It's certainly never been in any version that I've seen. Either way, it's very shabby storytelling.

The film would have been more satisfying with that scene included. It touched on the accident that killed Shaw's son. Since his inflexible attitude obviously related to the pain of that loss, a scene with Shaw and Ariel expressing their feelings about that could have made Shaw's change of heart more believable.

Maybe they left it out because they wanted the film to be completely light and non-serious.

I can't be bothered with a signature
