was this movie originally rated R?

I always thought this movie was rated PG but according to IMDB it says the movie is rated R

I was wondering the exact same thing!

I don't know that's weird. They show it on TV. So they must edit it to show it if it is rated R. I can't imagine that though, there's not much "bad" language, or nudity, or onscreen drug use. I'd say if anything ratings were less strict in the 80's also. The remakes not R rated, and it it's probably the same, or tamer, than the original. WEIRD.

Footloose was released prior to the PG13 rating was released. I think it couldn't pass for PG because of content and language that now would fall under PG13. Although much tamer by today's standards, there was violence including blood, a reference to either a girl having an abortion or running away to have a baby, drug use, language, implied sexual situations, and male nudity.

The days of Gremlins and The Temple of Doom getting PG ratings too.

Footloose has always been a "PG" film. The information on Imdb is incorrect.

You are correct. I have the DVD and it is rated PG.
