King & I "Shall We Dance?" Nod?

I couldn't help but notice that the costumes Ariel and Ren wear for the dance seem to be a stylistic nod to another movie in which dance is pivotal to the plot: "The King and I".

Though of course redesigned to fit 1980s fashion, I believe the colors (lavender/pale pink for Ariel, red for Ren) were meant to be a callback to "Shall We Dance" from the King & I. Ariel's dress even goes off the shoulder, much like the traditional costume for Anna. For obvious reasons, Ren's costume would have had to be simplified far more, but I still think the color choice was intentional.

I can't find any open admission about this online, but let me know what you guys think.
