"Footloose": The most overrated movie of the 80s?

This have got to be one of the most overrated movie of all the 80s in my opinion... The directing and acting are excellent but the story is really not well written at all to say the least... I didn't like at all this movie...

Guess you can't have an opinion without being called a douche. Personally, I found it good for one watch, but even then, I was super bored. Not the best movie in the world.

I'd say the most underrated '80s movie. One of anyway.

One of the most overrated movies of all time! I might enjoy this if I killed about half of my brain cells first.

I 'came of age' in the 80's, graduating HS in 84 (yes, the 80s were the very best times in the history of the US) and I can say with absolute certainty that this was not a beloved movie, a classic, or anything of that nature at the time.

A whole bunch of us went to see it at the drive-in, and we laughed hysterically at the plot line, the script, and some of the horrible acting that happened on screen. What we look back on (fondly, I think) is the campiness, the era, and the music.

It's not as if (most of us, anyhow, I can't speak for an entire generation) we nominated for awards, it's just one of those movies that's so bad it's good, and Kevin Bacon was hilarious. Not to mention John Lithgow & Dianne Wiest were really very good in their roles. Not a great movie and the script they had to work with was average, at best, but those two alone are completely believable in their roles.

Rest assured, young millennial, that we hold this to our memories more as a marker in time than an elevated piece of superior filmmaking.

The 80's destroyed the US and we still haven't fully recovered.

I would say the most overrated movie of the 80'S would be The Caddy Shack. I love Footloose.

Footloose is easily the best of the Big Three 80's dance movies and actually made significantly more at the domestic box office than Dirty Dancing ($80 million compared to $65 million). It has heart, a great cast, an exceptional soundtrack (with no less than six top 40 hits), all-around entertainment and real-life mindfood. It's also based on a true story (Elmore City, Oklahoma).

It does well in that it combines a serious and story based on truth while also being fun. There are worse films out there.
