Should be released on DVD

Who agrees with me?

I think BBC1 (British channel) showed it only once, in three parts, in the summer of 1987. I was 8 and I remember being creeped out by the advert which showed the corpse of Colette being discovered. It also showed MacDonald shedding tears at the funeral and Freddy Kassab breaking down at his desk.

If Fatal Vision ever gets a DVD release, I have a feeling Anchor Bay might do it and hopefully, it would have some information-filled extras, as well.

Another reason why I'd like to see this is because it's got the superb Karl Malden in it.

I wish they would. I was also a small child when I first saw this and really enjoyed it.

Yeah it should be on dvd. It's a great movie.

I think it's pretty obvious, but this will probably never see the light of day, with regard to an official DVD release. MacDonald has maybe issued a lawsuit against it being released in any shape or form, so that he can continue to present himself in a positive light.

If he dies, then maybe this might get a long-awaited release.

If I can, I'll see if I can get it off Ebay.

How could I get a vhs of it please?

Let me know details as to how to get a copy.
Many thanks,

I would imagine it is some kind of legal issue. That's what usually delays these sort of releases.

macdonald sued mcginnis over the book, and won so they might not release it because of that. shame that they don't because younger people who read his book, or hear him yapping his gums off ( which he seems to enjoy doing a lot) will tend to believe him without knowing the mounds of evidence against him.

Thanks for the information.

Actually he did not win..the jury hung on the first question and the judge insisted on a retrial. Knowing Mac needed money badly for his defense and knowing Mac would keep him tied up in court for years, McGinniss offered a settlement and Mac jumped at it. Then the Kassabs sued him for wrongful death and won so his judgement was reduced to $50,000.

I thought the court granted him less money than he was suppose to make from the book?

reply

Joe McGinniss had $100,000 in escrow..Mac's share of the book profits. His insurance company paid another $225,000 so in total Mac was due to receive $325,000. The $225,000 went to his attorney(s). The Kassabs sued him and were awarded $50,000 so Mac received $50,000. A heck of a lot less than the $15M he was suing for and half his earnings from the book.

That is most likely the reason. The case is still in litigation. The most litigated case in American jurisprudence. Try Alibris.com, you can probably get the VHS pretty cheap.

The VHS is on ebay right now (Jan 1 2009)...

Please add me to the list of people who will gladly buy this on DVD or Blu-Ray if it's ever released.

This is one of the most horrendous murder stories I have ever read about, and watching Gary Cole as MacDonald gave me goose bumps more than once.

I'm going to reread the book.

+1 for a DVD release!

ALL -

Log in to YouTube, type in 'Fatal Vision' I watched the entire mini-series in one day on my smartphone. I was really surprised, but the entire mini-series is on YouTube. No commercials, clean, everything is there. I remember watching the mini-series when I was about 11 or 12. Scared the crap out of me, and to this day, when I see the re-enactment of the "so-called hippies" attacking MacDonald, it stills creeps me out. I do believe, when it's all said and done, and having done my own research, he is guilty. For many years, I wanted to believe that a man would not do something like this to his own children and wife, but it is the only thing that makes sense to me now. Regardless of the confessions of other people, the evidence does not lie, and he killed all three (four) of them. So sad.....
