Soundtrack

I bought the soundtrack recently. Beautiful. If you like Pat Metheny's music, he did the whole soundtrack with his group. It came out in '85. David Bowie sings on one cut. What a great song. What a great collaboration. Bowie and Metheny. There's some orchestration and even a choir, all composed by Metheny and Lyle Mays and conducted by bassist Steve Rodby. Pick it up if you can find it.

This is one of my favorites Sountracks too. I still listen to it all the time.

The Ending Sequence when the boys are handcuffed and taken to jail is that on the Soundtrack CD?

"SG"

reply

No it isn't but you can find it from Pat Metheny Group's "Offramp" CD, it's the last track in it.

That's right, it's called "The Bat Part II".

The soundtrack contains the intended music, which is some choral music that mirrors the introductory music (both a musical setting of Psalm 121).

Supposedly, The Bat had been used as a temporary soundtrack, and the director preferred it for the final cut.

reply

Actually yes, it's the last track titled "Epilogue/Psalm 121"

I've had the soundtrack on vinyl for two decades, and I still take it out once in a while. I also have the 12-inch of "This is Not America." Superb song, very haunting.

Metheny and Bowie have paired up with a lot of other folks during their careers, and the results have been good but mixed at times. But they are absolutely terrific together. Wish they'd team up again! Sha la la la la ...

This Is Not America (David Bowie and The Pat Metheney Group) is an amazing song and the whole soundtrack is great. Of course Pat Metheney Group has won a number of well deserved Grammys for their outstanding work.

The song "This Is Not America" later appeared on Bowie's greatest hits compilation "Best of Bowie", appearing on all but the Australian and Japanese pressings of that album. Pat Metheny later noted that Bowie's words were "profound and meaningful – and absolutely perfect for the film".
