The scene where Feyd comes out of the steam bath...

Can someone explain it to me?

The Baron is flying in circles and cackling. Nefud(?) is doing something with... something. Is it a musical instrument? Is he playing music that the Baron is dancing to?

And then, Feyd appears. Was he taking a steam bath?

WTF IS GOING ON IN THIS SCENE?

I need to read the books again; at least the first one. It's been way too long. But right now I am looking for instant gratification. Any help appreciated.

This scene is not in the book.

Some say that Nefud may be playing a type of music to accompany the use of the drug semuta. Still, as I recall, semuta was a sort of soporific, and I don't think the Baron dallied in such. What was Feyd doing? Not sure, but the scene seems to me to be showing the Baron's lust for pretty young men (though in the book, he decidedly leaned toward younger specimens). It's also a prety egregious eye candy scene to show off Sting. The Baron is openly appreciative of Feyd's looks in the book, but he is astute enough to not act on that lust. He wants Feyd (and thus House Harkonne) to rule.

I'm getting off track. The scene was a Lynchism to more show the decadence of the Harkonnen.

Thanks pope_duke!

That scene is so over-the-top. The "evil cackles" out of Nerud and Rabban especially seem so forced and unreal. Ah well.

Re Sting and eye candy: I just read yesterday that he was all set to pop out of the steam bath entirely nude, and the bikini bottom thingie was a last minute decision. Ah well. (Again.)

I could bash this movie all day long (and still just be getting started) but I still watch it over and over! It's one of the most visually gorgeous movies I've ever seen.

Thanks again for the reply.

You are welcome.

There is plenty to bash about it, but I also love it. It turned me on to the book.

And it is visually stunning. I found out about the film because it used to play at a nightclub I frequented. There was no sound from it, of course, so it was just playing on the monitors throughout the place. I finally decided to give it an actual watch one day, then I dove into the books.

I remember when the movie came out in 1984, the producers really hyped up the fact that Sting was in this movie!

So you can imagine my surprise when I went to see the film and found out that Sting doesn't show up until the last 10 minutes of the movie.

I always thought Nefud was controlling the steam jets. He is continuously turning knobs as the Baron floats in circles. But, when he is shown, he is obviously looking at something as he adjusts the knobs. I cannot tell if he is looking at the Baron or the steam jets.
Maybe he was scoping out Sting's stinger?
Or maybe he is playing a musical instrument?

I always thought that the Baron could have used some time in the steam room more than Feyd.
