Why isn't Deathstalker III on DVD?

I have recently bought Deathstalker 1,2, and 4 on DVD. I have bedome annoyed that Deathstalker 3 is not on Region 1 DVD. Why not! 1,2, and 4 are, why not part 3!!! This drives me nuts! I wish it would be released I could complete my collection.

Maybe in 2008 when they do the 25th Anniversary limited issue box set they will include all of the Deathstalker DVDS. It could come in a plush velvet box and mahogony case.

reply

who cares? i wasted 20 bucks on these crap movies

I have it on DVD... You have to look for it. But the main reason it wouldnt be on dvd, is because its complete crap =)

reply

You people are missing the d*** point.YES I KNOW THEY ARE BAD, but that's the point. I like them because they are bad and I find total entertainment in that. Nothing beats a pack of Buds and some B-Movie lovin friends watching a Deathstalker film. Again, since I like them BECAUSE THEY ARE BAD, I want Deathstalker III on DVD. And NO IT IS NOT on region 1 DVD. Apparently there is no B-Movie lovin film freaks anymore....

reply

I protest, i am a B-Move loving freak. Hell i jsut watched both Allan Quartermain movies with my old man over thanksgiving weekend. granted, they maybe are not he calibur of something like Deathstaker, but its the same vein of movie :)

B-Movie lovers UNITE!

reply

Yeah, I realised that once I got it on DVD. I actually ended up getting a DVD burn of a VHS copy. It really pissed me off when I received it off of Ebay.

I think there is only two in the club. =)

lol. I actually know another person that actually likes these bad barbarian flicks so that makes a total of 3 members of the club. The three of us should sign a petition to get New Concorde to release Deathstalker III on DVD! Lmao!!

reply

They've got a few othes I'de like to see on DVD as well. Sorceress 1 + 2, and Wizards of The Lost Kingdom 1 + 2.

I heard of the Wizard of the Lost Kingom films, but never saw anything on them so I went to videodetective.com to watch the trailer. It looks like wholesome B-Grade entertainment! I'm all for that series to be released on DVD! I also just looked up Sorceress up here on imdb and was pleased to see that Jim Wynorski directed it. He is my all time favorite schlock film director directing such B-classics as Deathstalker II, Return of Swamp Thing, and Chopping Mall. His commentaries on those DVD's are humerous and entertaining and would love to see his film Sorceress put on DVD along with another one of his delightful commentaries.

reply

Yes, I enjoyed his commentaries too on Deathstalker 2. It made the movie more enjoyable. =) "Look at the tire right there!" and "That crystal ball is actually someone's doorknob from their house". Its a wonderful B classic.

So does anyone know for sure why this hasn't been released yet? Is there a rights issue or have they simply not got around to releasing it yet? Maybe I should email New Concorde to try to get some info.

reply

I tried e-mailing New Concorde to no avail. I'm not sure the reasoning, but I'm assuming its with rights, because everything else has been released by them. It just wouldn't make sense otherwise. The 3rd one is the one that MST3K parodies anyway, so perhaps they have the rights?

I saw a DVD of the MST3K episode with Deathstalker III on Ebay. I'm pretty sure it was a bootleg though, because I don't think Rhino has released any discs with just one episode on it. It is kind of dissapointing having 1,2,and 4, but not 3.

reply

I ended up getting a bootleg copy and making an authentic dvd cover by scanning in the cover art directly from a Boris Vallejo book, and then redesigning to logo. But Im a graphic artist and thats what I do =) Sad that its a bootleg though, but nobody has to know except me when they look at the collection.

Awsome! I wish I could make my own DVD covers. I also emailed new concorde about a year ago to see they were planning on releasing DSIII on DVD but I never got an email back. I keep hoping....maybe I'll just buy a bootleg and pay you to make me a cover lol

reply

If you get a burned copy, just shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you a pdf you can print of the cover. Just make sure to use glossy paper.

I guess its possible that Rhino has the rights to this film. They've been buying the rights to films for their MS3K collections. The sets they've released have been double-sided discs. On one side is the MS3K version, and on the other side is the full movie un-cut. So it's possible that they have the rights to Deathstalker III. No one has been able to get a response from New Concorde, but has anyone ever emailed Rhino?

reply

Hey jesse-acosta, do you have the film "Barbarian"? I'm sure you noticed that Roger Corman has been remaking a lot of his past films (he remade Humanoids from the Deep, Piranha, among others). Well I just bought Barbarian, and it is like a loose remake of Deathstalker. It even includes footage from the original DS as padding just like the DS sequels did! It was hilarious! It's funny seeing a 2003 movie splicing in footage from a movie 20 years earlier and expecting people not to see a difference. If you don't have this flick, you gotta get it!

Man, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom is awesome! Well the first one at least.. I've never seen the sequel. Long before I'd ever heard of mst3k, my brothers and I would watch Wizards over and over again and ridicule it mercilessly. It's truly up there with my all-time favourite B movies. The main villain is played by the same actor who was in Deathstalker III as "Troxartus." Also, during the opening credits, scenes from Deathstalker I are played, with some narration trying vainly to tie in the footage to the film we're about to see..

No bucks, no Buck Rogers.

reply

Ive got those on a double feature disc from www.Deepdiscountdvd.com for like $11.00. Great deal, crappy movies :)

reply

Well Deathstalker III was listed on Rhino's "which unreleased MS3K episodes would you like to see released" poll. So maybe Rhino does have the rights.

reply

But, sad to say, the DVD releases of the Barbarian Queen movies are both the R-rated cut versions :(

No sexy dungeon torture scene? No sale!

reply

Now that Corman's movies have a new distributer(Disney!), maybe we'll get new releases with the uncut versions.

reply

probably with crappy covers, i've seen some of the 'roger corman early movies' releases they've done, and they all look terrible, imho.

reply

Anyone care for a little....'Hawk the Slayer'? It doesn't have Lana Clarkson in it, but it is AMAZING! Highly Recommended for all cack-lovers.

reply

I believe I've seen both versions, the scene is there, it's just edited down a bit. As an example, the distant shot where you actually see her wrap her legs around him is gone, so it's less clear exactly what she's doing to make him release her. You can still sorta guess, but it certainly helps to have seen the uncut one.

I still can't believe that *beep* shot and killed her.

reply

LOL, cause it sucks?

One was GREAT (Hey, I saw it in the theater on its original run!)
Two was somewhat repetition of the first, but still worked, and had Monique in it, at her best, so it was worth it.
Three was lame
Four -- why was this movie made?
